Three Minneapolis Police Officers Charged over George Floyd’s Death

Minnesota charged three more officers accused of aiding and abetting in the killing of George Floyd. Puza Snigdha reports.

Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J Alexander Keung, the three officers who were charged on Tuesday, made their first court appearance on Thursday afternoon.

The three were all charged with second-degree aiding and abetting felony murder and second-degree aiding and abetting manslaughter in the death of Floyd.

According to the jail recors, Lane, Kueng and Thao were taken into custody Wednesday and are being held on $1 million bail.

“We’re confident in what we’re doing,” said Ellison in press release and he added, “But history does show that there are challenges here.”

Former officer Derek Chauvin arrested last week, charging with third-degree murder and manslaughter but later the charges were upgraded to second-degree murder Wednesday. Chauvin is in the jail on a $500,000 bond.

“This is a significant step forward on the road to justice and we are gratified that this important action was brought before George Floyd’s body was laid to rest”, said Benjamin Crump, Floyd’s family lawyer.
According to the video and the criminal complaint, Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd’s neck as Floyd pleaded that he could not breathe.

The autopsy report of Floyd says that he has died due to asphyxiation resulting from pressure applied to his back and neck.
