Taylor Swift Praises Supreme Court’s LGBTQ+ Decision

Stars such as Taylor Swift, Tegan and Sara and more are celebrating the step that the Supreme Court has taken to officially protect LGBTQ people from workplace discrimination. Puza Snigdha reports.

On Monday, the Supreme Court passed the rule that gay, lesbian and transgender employees are now protected from being fired or discriminated against in the workplace as a result of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Following the order of the Supreme Court, many popular artists took to social media to celebrate this surprise victory.

Adressing the decision as ‘beautiful step forward’, Taylor Swift tweeted: “YES!! Thank you to the Supreme Court Justices who voted in favour and all the advocates who have fought so hard for this! We still have a long way to go to reach equality, but this is a beautiful step forward.”

Caitlyn Jenner, who came out as transgender in 2015, joined Taylor and said: “Victory, yes! A victory for the LGBT community in Supreme Court today. This is great news!”

Tegan & Sara also shared a headline from the New York Times which celebrated the verdict, while remembering Aimee Stephens, the transgender woman who originally brought the case against the court and died in May without seeing the victory.

“It took 56 years but today the Supreme Court ruled that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects LGBTQ+ workers from workplace discrimination.”

Selena Gomez also tweeted ‘Great news,’ to show support to the ruling.
