Music Monday: Latest Music of this week

Our music editor Adam Humphries brings you the top 5 selected tracks. Make sure to add them to your playlist!

Jodie Harsh – My House

An upbeat dance number that came out in 2021 and is the musical gem by James ‘Jamie Allen Clarke, also known by his alter-ego, Drag Queen and DJ/Producer, Jodie Harsh. The lyrics are quite catchy and is really easy to sing along to. The main chorus itself has a tongue-in-cheek type appeal to it. The subject matter is about unity and being together in that time of need. Overall it is one that you can put on your playlist.

“Everybody’s welcome in my house/Ooh-ooh, in my house”

Even the video is entertaining and looks like it was done via video call along with some clever editing.

Woodkid – Run Boy Run

Straight from the opening, it has quite a strong sound to it and a steady drum beat that weaves itself through from the third bar till near the end of the track. Overall the number itself is an interesting mix of instrumental sounds which come together in a spectacular way. The lyrics to the song are cleverly written and give an extra edge to the atmosphere.

“Run boy run boy/tomorrow is another day and you won’t have to hide away”

Watch the accompanying video, it’s as good as the song

Kylie Minogue – I Was Gonna Cancel

A great dance number which came out seven years ago, when Kylie was a coach on The Voice UK. An upbeat electronic tune with some bells thrown in for extra depth adding more to the feel of the song. Ironically the track is about mental health issues and trying to Just face each day as it comes. What’s clever about it is that a big issue is clearly being addressed but set against a feel good song.

Check out the video, cleverly done and personifies the feeling of loneliness even if in a crowd. Interestingly enough also has a slight 70’s feel to it with the clothes

“Just hop out of the bed/go ahead face the day”

Jamie Woon – Night Air

An incredible track by British singer/songwriter, Jamie Woon. The song is a smooth mixture of synthesiser, neo-dubstep and bassline. Jamie’s singing carries lots of emotion which takes it time in gradually releasing itself as the song progresses. In regards to the lyrics the subject matter is quite an interesting one as it’s like a description of the darker side of a person’s own mentality. Finding calm and sanity in being alone with only yourself

“I control the skies above me/close my eyes to make the night fall”

The video to this is rather well put together and adds more depth to the nature of the song

Kate Bush – King of The Mountain

Need I say anything else about it. An absolute gem of a track by the superbly talented British singer/songwriter herself, Kate Bush. Now what is interesting is the idea behind the tune is that it mostly draws inspiration from conspiracy theories, especially ones around American singer, Elvis Presley, and his death. Even the lyrics address them directly, and it’s done in a clever way to.

“The wind is whistling/through the house”

“Another Hollywood waitress/is telling us she’s having your baby”

The accompanying video to this is very creative, very Kate Bush and makes clever references to the stories surrounding Elvis
