Holidate****
Holidate is a romantic comedy film directed by John Whitesell and written by Tiffany Paulsen released in 2020. Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, Jake Manley, Jessica Capshaw, Andrew Bachelor, Frances Fisher, Manish Dayal, and Kristin Chenoweth are among the cast members. The plot is about Sloane (Emma Roberts) promising to bring a platonic plus-one (Luke Bracey) to every holiday gathering (a.k.a. “holidate”) for a year after becoming tired of her family’s pitying comments about her love life. On October 28, 2020, Netflix released the film.
Last Christmas****
In recent years, the romantic comedy has taken a sabbatical, at least from the big screen. “Last Christmas” would seem to be just what the holiday rom-com doctor ordered. It’s got two terrific stars: Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. The film was directed by Paul Feig. In theory, the film has a number of things going for it. It’s set in Yugoslavia and unfolds in a rambunctious Yuletide version of London. Last Christmas was released in the United States on 8 November 2019. The film grossed $123 million worldwide. It received mixed reviews from critics. They praised the performances and chemistry of stars Tom Hiddleston and Helena Bonham Carter.
The Princess Switch: Switched Again****
Mike Rohl directs The Princess Switch: Switched Again, a 2020 American Christmas romantic comedy film. Vanessa Hudgens, Sam Palladio, Suanne Braun, and Nick Sagar feature in this sequel to The Princess Switch. Margaret Delacourt, the Duchess of Montenaro, takes the crown of her home kingdom of Montenaro unexpectedly. Margaret’s malevolent cousin Lady Fiona, a third look-alike, disguises herself as Margaret in a plot to capture the crown, unbeknownst to both ladies. That’s the whole plot. Brad Krevoy produced the film, which was released on Netflix on November 19, 2020.
The Knight Before Christmas****
The Knight Before Christmas is a 2019 Christmas comedy film. Filming took place in Canada between April and May 2019. The film was released on November 21, 2019. It is directed by Monika Mitchell and written by Cara J. Russell with scenes filmed in Canada and Ireland. The plot is about on December 18, 1334, squire Cole Christopher Fredrick Lyons (Josh Whitehouse) takes part in an annual Christmas hawking competition. High school science teacher Brooke Winters (Vanessa Hudgens) takes her niece Claire to the opening of the “Christmas Castle”. The film follows Cole as he attempts to fulfill a quest given to him by an old crone. He is sent back in time to the 14th century, where he falls in love with Brooke.
The Holiday****
The Holiday is a 2006 romantic comedy film written, produced, and directed by Nancy Meyers. Jude Law and Jack Black were cast as the film’s leading men Graham and Miles. To get away from their relationship problems, two girls from different nations swap residences for the holidays. Their lives, however, are turned upside down when they meet and fall in love with two local boys. The film premiered in New York City on November 29, 2006, before it was theatrically released in the United Kingdom and the United States on December 8, 2006. It grossed over $205 million worldwide against a budget of $85 million.
