EXCLUSIVE: DragWorld's JuJuBee – Commitment, Care and Class

DragWorld UK is fast approaching!  Starting on the 18 – 19 August, DragWorld is  known for being the biggest drag convention in Europe. Thankfully, we got RuPaul’s drag race season 2 contestant JuJuBee to answer some questions before the extravagant event…
Hannah Montgomery: Drag Queens are becoming more and more prominent as society becomes more accepting of those choosing to adopt more ‘alternative’ lifestyles. What are your thoughts on the current drag queen scene and do you think there is room for progression?
JuJuBee: The current drag scene is incredible and vast. There isn’t just one version of drag and that melts my heart. There is always room for progression in any art form. In order for the drag scene to progress, we must look back at the queens who came before us; appreciate their work and be grateful they’ve paved this road.
Hannah Montgomery: What do you personally think it takes to be a ‘Queen’?
JuJuBee: In order to be a Queen, one must understand why they are doing Drag. If it is from a place of love then that’s already the correct path. Drag isn’t easy and it’s certainly not for everyone. It’s more than looks, attitude and sass. It takes commitment, care and class. One must love the art in order to be a true Queen.
Hannah Montgomery: What advice would you give to those who are interested in exploring the Drag scene but may be too self-conscious to?
JuJuBee: I’d tell them to try it out and see what they could pull from their everyday reality to this imaginative being. Most artists find their art to be therapeutic and exploring something that makes one a bit uncomfortable can be part personal growth.
Hannah Montgomery: Can you tell us about your involvement with DragWorld? What can we expect from your appearance?
JuJuBee: I am so excited to be part of DragWorld!!! Firstly, to be able to meet fans who adore our work is already a gift I’m grateful for. I’m also very excited to see my Drag Race sisters and meet all the Queens and fans alike. Expect me to be on time. That’s something I’ve been working on. 🙊
Hannah Montgomery: What do you think makes DragWorld a great event to attend?
JuJuBee: DragWorld is THE event to attend, because it allows drag fans from around the world to meet their favorite queens and explore their inner divas! Who doesn’t want to be around other fabulous people?!?
Hannah Montgomery: The festival season is fast approaching…are there any festivals you will be looking forward to attending? Why do you think festivals are so successful?
JuJuBee: Festivals are a way for people to just enjoy themselves and take a break from everyday life. It’s quite an uplifting idea. I believe they’re so successful, because it allows many walks of life who have a common thread to experience what they enjoy most. Also, festival food has to be one of my favorites.
Hannah Montgomery: Do you have a life motto or ethic that you abide by?
JuJuBee: I’ve recently adopted this life motto and that is to LIVE IN THE MOMENT. Too often, I was beating myself up for things that happened in the past and that’s just unproductive thinking. I’ve learned to accept the things I cannot change. With that said, I’ve gained the courage to change the things I can, ME, and with mindful practice, wisdom comes along.
Dragworld uk takes place in London on 18 & 19 August.
