Creator confirms “Squid Game” Season 2 is coming!

It seems Squid Game’s season 2 is officially coming. The series writer and director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has confirmed the news during Squid Game’s Q&A event. It’s held in Hollywood.

Speaking during the Q/A session, Hwang revealed that the support Squid Game has received so far has been so overwhelming. So there is no chance that season 2 won’t be happening soon.

Meanwhile, ICYMI, in October, it was announced that Squid Game had officially become Netflix’s biggest show to date, with over 111 million viewers.

“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season.” Hwang said, per a translation provided by the media. Hwang continued saying that though nothing is set in stone, the plot for the sophomore season is “in my head right now.” “I’m in the planning process currently,” he added. In English, he emphasized that “Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world.”

In September, after the series premiere, Hwang also opened up about a potential second season. Back then, he said that he did not have “well-developed plans” for Squid Game’s season. “It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors,” he added.

As noted by other sources, he later discussed potential plotlines for season 2 aside from Gi-hun’s story, revealing he’d want to explore more about the Front man’s back-story. “If I do get to do [a second season] one would be the story of the Frontman [a former cop who now oversees the game]. I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news. This was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season two, I can talk about this more,” he said.
