The star-studded night of the Super Bowl Halftime Show was nothing but a great amusement for all. Over 15 minutes, the artists joined together to give us a nostalgic race through some of hip-hop and R&B’s most iconic tracks.

Anderson. Paak pops up on ‘Lose Yourself’
Before Eminem took the knee, a familiar face appeared on the screen during ‘Lose Yourself’ that is Anderson. Paak, made a low-key appearance during the track, playing the drums while rapping along with a big smile on his face to show a neat connection from the classic west coast hip-hop of the headline acts to the newer generation.
Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg bring out the classics
The Super Bowl Halftime Show was bookended by performances from Dre and Snoop, who first took to the stage to perform ‘The Next Episode’ and a version of 2Pac’s ‘California Love’. But the most exciting part was reported by NFL claim that the league had told Dre not to rap the line “still not loving police”, yet he went ahead and did anyway.
Eminem takes the knee
Eminem delivered a great performance of the 8 Mile track ‘Lose Yourself’ then knelt on top of the mini building he was performing from a copy of the move popularized by Colin Kaepernick as a reflection of protesting racial inequality and police brutality in America. This move made a great impact during the US’ biggest sporting event of the year.
Kendrick Lamar’s statement with ‘Alright’
‘Alright’ has been a positive anthem of protest after its release, in 2015 by Kendrick Lamar’ and since then being chanted in protests against police brutality in the US as a symbol of defiance and hope. In the Super halftime show, Kendrick started with ‘m.A.A.d City’, later after that, the rapper also shared a version of the track, adding another layer of political statement to the night’s proceedings alongside Eminem and Dre.
Mary J. Blige delivers the power
Mary J. Blige was the only singer on the bill for this special Super Bowl performance. She more than made the stage on her own with a two-song appearance. Firstly, she was joined by dancers dressed in dazzling silver outfits that matched her own song ‘Family Affair’, before she took the stage by herself during the iconic ‘No More Drama’ song.
50 Cent’s hung upside down surprise appearance
The super bowl halftime show recreated something for the fan. During Dre and Snoop’s performance, 50 Cent hung upside down a floor below a memorable entrance with the reference to his video for the huge 2003 single ‘In Da Club’. Just when he was hung from the rafters as dancers recreated a club scene beneath him, this was a significant moment of the whole event.
