According to the PPU, The bloc should represent a group of LGBT+ at BAE and Outlink. Pacifist confirms on the other hand that the company has used the bloc’s presence at Pride. They did this to show off on social media that they support human rights. BAE staff has hosted banners to foster their employers, in the previous years.
Rachel Melly, the LGBT+ rights activist and PPU member said that BAE Systems adepts in abuses for human rights. It also includes conflicts which are fatal around the world as well as state suppression. The arms company uses this Pride as an opportunity to wash their image. They would benefit themselves from the death and destruction, to claim all of these are far away from LGBTQ+ liberation as well as equality.
BAE Systems had sold weapons worth £ 17.6 billion to Saudi Arabia since the war at Yemen started. This happened in April last year. The Campaign Against Arms Trade reported that the Yemen conflict caused the death of over 100,000 people. These numbers of people suffered due to the military action. 12,000 civilians were also suffered as victims within the figure of 100,000.
Favouring equality to use Pride as their bridge, allowing BAE Systems cannot make it that way! The PPU poses no bar for LGBT+ members to join the Pride. As individuals. The armed forces were not invited in the following years after 2018. This happened because a protest took place in the York Pride by a PPU member and their amalgamates. They had their protests on the armed forces.
