Taliban leaders of Afghanistan recently issued an order that all Afghanistan Women have to wear the body-covering burqa in public.
The decision has bring up questions, is it the proper way to treat women damaging their human rights?
Shir Mohammad, an official from the vice and virtue ministry said, “For all dignified Afghan women, wearing hajib is necessary and the best hajib is chadors [the head-to-toe burqa], which is part of our tradition and is respectful.”
Human rights activists over the world warn that Afghanistan women could face similar restrictions during the Taliban’s hard-line rule between 1996 and 2001.
“We want our sisters to live with dignity and safety,” said Khalid Hanafi, the acting minister in the Taliban’s vice and virtue ministry.
“Islamic principles and Islamic ideology are more important to us than anything else,” he added.
From a religious point of view, most women in Afghanistan wear a headscarf but in urban areas, women do not cover their faces.
According to the order, it says that if women had no important work outside it was better for them to stay at home.
