Extinction Rebellion Designs Show at Victoria and Albert Museum

London’s Victoria and Albert Museum has procured key curios related to the Extinction Rebellion atmosphere dissent development, its Rapid Response Collecting exhibition will premiere at the end of this week.
They will be showing the digital files which contain the organisation’s distinctive Extinction Symbol logo, which was designed by the London artist ESP back in 2011. The group, which was founded in October 2018, has placed a series of large-scale demonstrations to encourage the UK government to announce a state of climate disaster and substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
In April 2019, Extinction Rebellion held an 11-day protest in several sites around Central London in a co-ordinated series of non-violent behaviour of civil disobedience. About 1,000 activists were imprisoned by the police, the first 29 of who made an appearance in the UK court last week.
The museum, which focuses on art and design, has also obtained digital artefacts along with the website from which the symbol is widely presented for anyone to use, and a downloadable document for 3D printers, enabling activists to create and instantly use their own printing block to develop yet more banners, T-shirts and placards.
In a statement Clive Russell, a member of the Extinction Rebellion Arts Group said that he is “pleased that the group’s work is included in a collection that also contains works by William Morris and other design activists from the past.” He also called on “all artists and designers to think beyond the bullying constraints of commercial drudgery and join us in rebellion.”
