President Joe Biden unveiled a radical change in direction from the Trump era to address the existential climate crisis that the world is witnessing right now. He said, “We can’t wait any longer”.
On Wednesday, Joe Biden took actions in his hand and gave executive orders to tackle the Climate crisis which looms the globe, beckoning catastrophes.
Here are the top five steps Biden has taken to tackle this issue:
1. Halt Fossil Fuel activities
He has immediately ordered to halt all fossil fuel activity on public lands and has directed his government body to start full frontal effort to lower plant-heating emissions. He said, ‘We need to be bold,’ and has done the exactly that through these orders.
2. Review Oil and Drillings on Federal Lands
He has instructed the US government to pause and review all oil and drilling on federal lands. “We have already waited too long to deal with this climate crisis, we can’t wait any longer”, said President Joe.
3. Introduce Electric Vehicles
He has asked the government to transform government’s vast fleet of cars and trucks into electric vehicles. He said, that climate change is something we are witnessing with our eyes and “it’s time to act”.
4. Aid for BAME Communities
Biden has also pledged to attenuate the disproportionate effects of Climate change on Black and Brown communities through changes in policies and funding.
5. Creation of New jobs through Clean Energy
Biden has also pledged to create jobs from investments in clean energy such as solar and wind. He said that these plans are the “concrete actionable solutions” to the problems.
He has framed the actions of tackling climate change to help the nation driven with unemployment due to the pandemic and vowed to announce new targets at the Paris Climate Summit on 22 April.
