Excitingly, today marks the launch of the world’s first AI-powered motion tracking fitness app. This basically means that you can turn your iPhone into your very own personal trainer – you can use this app to get feedback in real-time and learn how to achieve the perfect squat – all without leaving the comfort of your own home!
The app is launched at 10am UK time today and is a unique piece of tech that will help you to get fit without having to go through the expense and rigamarole of hiring your own PT.
This is a ground-breaking technology that will undoubtedly transform the world of fitness and physiotherapy because it uses AI-powered motion tracking technology, which makes it possible to receive real-time feedback and squat perfectly without having another person present to judge and critique your efforts.
What’s more, this virtual app – suitably named The Perfect Squat Challenge – is free to download, so you can work out without spending a penny to get the expertise!
This technological first was developed by Kaia Health, a foremost digital therapy company, and its creation was also influenced by the input of knowledgable physiotherapists and sport scientists.
The way the app works is relatively simple; users are welcomed by Kaia, the virtual personal trainer who is on hand to guide the individual through the exercises.
To ensure usability you can easily place your iPhone upright – against a table or wall – then step back until you become visible on the screen. Your body will then be tracked with 16 key points and this can contrast your observed pose with the ‘ideal’ pose, which has been predefined by experts. It works by considering metrics such as limb and joint positioning (and the angles between them).
During the session Kaia provides actionable audio instructions which will prompt the user to complete as many correct squats as is possible.
Upon discussing this app, Maximilian Strobel, Head of Kaia Health’s AI Lab said: “Breakthroughs in AI-powered motion tracking and correction technology means that everyone now has access to a virtual personal trainer and physiotherapist on their iPhone – and can perfect exercises such as the squat.
“In the future, this technology will integrate within our medical device apps for diseases and conditions such as back pain creating a scalable, cost-effective therapeutic tool. This democratises access to high-quality, bespoke fitness, rehabilitation and physiotherapy – and could reduce the burden on health services.”
