George Michael formed the band Wham! as a teenager with high school classmate Andrew Ridgeley. “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” was the duo’s first worldwide smash in 1984. Michael went solo two years later, releasing the blockbuster debut album Faith, which has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. Michael came out as gay after getting detained for indecent behavior in a public washroom in 1998. Michael continued to perform, and his career was relaunched in the mid-2000s with the release of his greatest hits collection Twenty Five. He continued to tour and dedicated a large portion of his time and money to charity. Michael died on December 25, 2016, in his home in England, of heart and liver problems.
