West Bengal Panchayat Election Result 2018: TMC has won in 90 per cent of the seats, says West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
The ruling Trinamool Congress created a massive victory in over 2,400 Village council (panchayat) seats in West Bengal, according to the State Election Commission officials said.
The BJP and the CPI(M) won 386 and 94 gram panchayat seats respectively, the State Election Commission officials told to the Indian Media.
The counting of votes started at 8 am in extremely tight security. Of the 48,650 seats in 3,358 gram panchayats, 16,814 were uncontested and of the 9,217 seats in 341 panchayat samitis, 3,059 were uncontested.
In the 20 zilla parishads, 203 of the 825 seats were uncontested, the sources said.
Meanwhile, re-polling at 573 booths across 19 districts in the state took place on Wednesday after opposition parties approached the State Election Commission citing the violence and booth rigging that marred the gram panchayat elections on Monday, which saw a voter turnout of 73 per cent and 29 people being killed across several districts. The re-polling on Wednesday saw a 68 per cent turnout.
TMC has emerged victorious in 90% seats despite the opposition parties coming together. This shows how strong we are at the grassroot level: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said.
The West Bengal Panchayat election 2018 results came out yesterday. While Mamata Banerjee is eyeing to strengthen Trinamool Congress supremacy in rural areas of West Bengal, BJP wants to make an impact in state politics.
CPIM and Congress are looking to maintain their tag as prime opposition parties. While the outcome of the three-tier panchayat polls is crucial, results of 825 zilla parishad seats will bear bigger significance. These seats are spanned across 20 districts in the state.
