Top 5 ways to eliminate poverty in the world

Poverty is still a major problem in the world. But if we really want to improve life prospects for the poor we need to reduce the number of poor around the world. It will come when they will be increasing their families’ incomes. Discussed below are the top 5 ways to reduce poverty in the world.

Create and improve access to jobs and remove the barrier

According to the International Labor Organization, 197 million people are without work worldwide. More employment options in a country mean more ways of how to stop poverty. To increase employment, non-literate people can be taught a few skills to make them employable.

Meanwhile, with female full-time workers earning just 78 cents for every $1 earned by men, action must be taken to ensure equal pay for equal work. Closing the gender wage gap and remove barriers would cut poverty in half for working women and their families and add nearly half a trillion dollars to the nation’s gross domestic product.

Invest in and implement agricultural programs

China has helped 800 million people out of poverty since 1978. As a part of its strategy to eradicate poverty by 2020, the Agricultural Bank of China will lend more than $400 billion to help develop rural areas, fund education, infrastructure, and crop production. To eradicate poverty from a nation one country can follow the Chinese and invest in and implement within own agriculture program.

Educate Everyone

Education helps increase individual earnings for every member of a family. UNESCO points out that basic reading skills can lift 171 million people out of extreme poverty, ultimately reducing the world’s total poverty by 12 percent. UNESCO also mentions there are currently about one billion illiterate adults in the world. The lack of affordable, high-quality child care serves as a major barrier to reaching the middle class. In fact, one year of child care for an infant costs more than one year of tuition at most states’ four-year public colleges. Many parents must spend a significant chunk of their income on childcare, or can’t work because they can’t find quality childcare that’s affordable. Many studies illustrate that high-quality childcare and education help low-income children build the foundation for skills that enable better education, jobs, and earnings.

Closing the gap on racial and ethnic inequalities

Closing the gap on racial and ethnic inequalities in this country is critical to our success in ending poverty for good. Bringing in community leaders, focusing on cleaning up existing infrastructures, and providing new opportunities for people of all races and ethnicities will ensure that everyone has a brighter future.

 Volunteer your time

Volunteering is an excellent way to make a difference and improve the odds for individuals and families alike. Hundreds of volunteer opportunities involving labor, skills, and resources to your community exist; you only have to show up and donate your time and talents to see significant gains in the fight against poverty.

Ultimately change depends on political power and the democratization of decision-making.  We believe by taking proper steps one day the world will be able to eliminate poverty.
