Vitoria Mario received a £23,000 donation from Taylor swift which will allow her to take up a maths course at the University of Warwick this September.
The student received a conditional offer to study Mathematics at the “prestigious” University of Warwick after achieving AAA in A-levels in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics.
However, Miss Mario was not sure if she would be able to attend university due to her financial circumstances.
Vitoria Mario has lived in the U.K for 4 years now, after migrating from Portugal to live with family in Tottenham, which means she’s not eligible for maintenance loans or grants due to not having a “Home” status in the U.K.
After emailing numerous people from top firms to see if they were able to assist, Vitoria had a donation directly from the Look What You Made Me Do celebrity.
Taylor Swift wrote: “Vitoria, I came across your story online and am so inspired by your drive and dedication to turning your dreams into reality. I want to gift you the rest of your goal amount. Good luck with everything you do! Love, Taylor.”
The teenager stated on her gofundme page that she had to make difficult decisions to leave Portugal, where she had to leave her mother.
She said her family couldn’t afford to support her and she needed the funds to help pay for accommodation, a laptop, textbooks and general living costs.
Swift has made several donations to fans whose stories has read about online.
