Tasty @CafeOn: Chinese Favorite ‘Buddha’s Delight’ Recipe

The famous Chinese New Year’s favorite dish is ‘Buddha’s delight’, a heaping bowl of greens and goodies that provides a lot of vitamins and minerals. The Buddha’s Delight is a traditional Chinese dish filled with tasty ingredients to blow your tastebud. Which is a salad kind.

WhatsOn has come with the recipe of this salad this week to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The prep time for this dish is 15 minutes, cooking will take 20 minutes to finish up the whole process.

Ingredients

Veggies

  • Oil, 1 tbsp 
  • Veggies, 6 cups (Chopped mushrooms, bok choy, broccoli florets, snow peas, carrots, peppers, etc. combined)
  • Salt, ¼ tsp 
  • Pepper, ¼ tsp 

Sauce

  • Sesame oil, 15 ml (Toasted)
  • Ginger, 1 tbsp (freshly grated)
  • Garlic cloves, 3 (minced)
  • Soy sauce, ¼ cup (60 ml)
  • Honey, 1 tbsp

Assembly

  • Seitan, 8 oz (cut into bite-sized) as a meat alternative
  • Oil, 1 tbsp
  • Bamboo shoots, 1 8-oz can (drained)
  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Method

  • Heat oil in a large sauté pan or wok over medium/high.
  • Add sliced veggies, salt, and pepper.
  • Cook for 8-10 mins until veggies are slightly softened and golden.
  • Now add sesame oil to a small pan and heat over medium.
  • Add ginger and garlic into it and cook until soft and fragrant for 3 minutes.
  • Stir in remaining sauce ingredients to warm, then remove from heat and set aside.
  • Remove veggies from the large sauté pan and add another 1 Tbsp of oil and heat over medium/high.
  • Then add seitan to cook until golden around the edges, for 5-7 minutes.
  • After that add back in the veggies, bamboo shoots, and sauce in the pan with the seitan.
  • Toss everything to evenly combine.
  • Lastly top with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
  • Serve warm, Enjoy!
