Sunday Social: Record-breaking inflation rate, People can’t buy food

The struggle is on for a lot of families in the UK to meet the basic goods because of the high cost. The report shows that the newest inflation rates have gone up to 7%. Since the last month, the process of squeezing is on; the prices of food and fuel are rising continuously; people are seeing the record-breaking inflation rate.

The National Statistics office is saying that according to the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation increased 7% in March since February. The rate was 6.2 % in February. The report shows, since Mar. 1992, this is the highest percentage of inflation. In 1992, the percentage of inflation was 7.1.

For the families, the cost of food got increased by 2.3 %. And the cost of living is 5.5% more expensive than that of the last year’s price. According to the reports, the prices of shoes and clothes increased by 9.8 %, and the price of fossil fuels by 7.2 %. It is 18% more than last year’s numbers. If compared to last year’s price, fresh milk is 13.2% more expensive. This time it increased by 1.7%.

According to a prediction by the Bank of England, the inflation rate may even get closer to 8% in April due to the newly increased energy price. A lot of households are already suffering from the rising costs.

Reports say that a lot of senior citizens are already living without the heating facilities for about three months. There are even people who are living without water or electricity services. The government is asked to take immediate action to save people from facing financial difficulties.

People are suffering since the beginning of 2022, but the government has done nothing to help the people to meet their basic needs. In a sense, the government failed to ensure that no one is deprived of their basic human rights. An emergency budget can be a practical solution to the cost-of-liming problem. Some are saying that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has failed to lead the country.
