Sunday Social: 5 steps to achieve Meritocracy

It is hard to imagine a society where people get success because of their abilities, and not because of their money or social position. But it is a society that we desperately need right now more than ever to make things straight. The word was coined by Michael Young in 1958, in his book, The Rise of the Meritocracy. The idea has been taken forward to bring in progress and foster development. Here are 5 steps on how to achieve Meritocracy in your home, workplace, and community:

1.Empower Leaders

It is very important to give our leaders the necessary tools and manpower to succeed and drive society forward. They need to constantly evolve and adapt to changes. After all, they are the role models that the rest of us needs to follow.

2. Encourage Discussion

In a meritocratic society, everyone will have the right to express their opinions and will be encouraged to share them openly and more often. Decisions need to be made after listening to the opinions and finding out what will be deemed for the best. Start this practice from your home. Good communication can solve a lot of problems.

3. Foster Passion

People should be driven by their passion to succeed and a meritocratic society needs to facilitate with the right platforms and opportunities for everyone to enhance their skills and give back to society.

4. Transparent results

It is important for everyone to feel a sense of trust when it comes down to results. People should be assured that the results are correct and fair Thus it is very important for a Meritocratic society to ensure transparent results.

5. Rewards

Last but not the least, a Meritocratic society needs to ensure to reward the ones who deserve it. Effort of each individual should be measured and they will receive the remuneration based on that. The harder and honestly one works, the more he/she receives. Whether be it form of money, promotion, or acknowledgement.

Meritocracy helps to stay on the cutting edge of things and bring light to the best of ideas. It is a society that we should build for our future generation.
