Small Great Things

Author: Jodi Picoult
African American labour and delivery nurse Ruth is one day banned from treating a White Supremacist’s baby. Things get complicated when, during an emergency, she is the only nurse available to supervise that baby when he goes into cardiac and respiratory arrest. When the baby dies, she is put on trial for negligence.
This is a gripping and deeply moving tale about how people feel uncomfortable talking about race and that people who don’t think they’re racist still might have some racial biases. The writing is simple and makes for a light and entertaining read – although it will also make you question yourself and feel anger towards the established status quo.
