Recycling of Plastic Products – 5%

The recycling of plastic products is just 5%. Recycling of plastic products is only 5% in the U.S according to a recent report. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle happen to be the 3Rs required for environmental protection. Environmental pollution has given in to severe climatic changes affecting the global temperature. The waste generated by human beings is a lot more than nature can imbibe. The recent flashfloods and climatic changes all owe to climate change due to environmental hazards.

The Greenpeace Report

A Report by Greenpeace has found that just 5% of all the products are recycled in the U.S. All of the plastic products end up in landfills. Plastic packaging has been used to pack goods in the U.S. Plastic packaging in no way can be called recyclable. A well-known standard measure is opining that plastic packaging cannot be recycled the way they are produced. Greenpeace now opines that it should be accepted now that plastic recycling is ultimately a failed concept.

Greenpeace Reports: Solution

The methods that can be adopted to lessen the environmental pressure have been given by Greenpeace. Greenpeace said about the alternatives that can be adapted which include the reuse and refill system. The system concerns the reuse and refill system should immediately and quickly be scaled. The goal can be achieved by involving the companies for the greater good. The companies should further not use recycling as a smokescreen. Even if it meant to divert attention from the developmental change that is required it should be practiced.

The Estimates: Plastic Recycling EMF NPE Initiative

U.S households generate an estimated 51 million tons of plastic waste in 2021. The rate of recycling only stands at 2.4 million which is less in number. Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastic Economy Initiative allows no plastic meets recycling. The recycling of plastic production has declined by 5-6% in 2021 which is lessened from 2014. 2014 has recorded a 9.5% recycling 2014 and 8.7% in 2018. The US also exported millions of tons of plastic waste to China and counted as recycled though it was burned or dumped.
