Netflix finally dropped the first official teaser of ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ which is not the quirky comedy that ‘90s kids remember rather it is scaring the hell out of audience with the thrilling “Happy Birthday” tone directly from hell.
The first peek at the serious reboot of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” is nothing but 60 seconds of pure horror which is created by “Riverdale” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
The teaser is filled with occult images, magical incantations and a birthday party filled with guests where Sabrina is being invited to celebrate her special birthday.
A haunting voice is heard singing “Happy Birthday” throughout the one-minute teaser. In the clip, viewers can see the first glimpses of Spellman Mortuary and the title character locks lips with Harvey in the hallway and blows out the candles on her birthday cake with a grin as a group of mysterious people and creatures serenade her before disappearing.
Based on the dark comics of the same name, Kiernan Shipka plays a Satanic Sabrina, shown in the first trailer at her 16th birthday party. Sabrina, half-witch and half-human, must choose between the dual aspects of her identity—the dark and evil witch side, or the light and happy mortal side.
A page of the script, which Aguirre-Sacasa teased on Instagram last October, and an official image from the series that Netflix released in August, may explain why this birthday is so significant in the series.
Netflix set to drop the series on October 26, the weekend before Halloween.
