This week our music editor Adam Humphries has brought the reviews of the new music releases of the time. Check below:
‘Lundi Matin’ by KAKY
French artist, Kaky, drops his new single, Lundi Matin, which translates as ‘Nobody likes Monday mornings’, something that I think we can all agree with.
It’s a track that is just over two and a half minutes long and for a song that is about the dislikes of getting up on the morning of the first day of the week it’s ironically upbeat. The song is filled with some very good tempo beats, Kaky’s vocals along with some nicely placed backing vocals. What makes the song that bit more genius is that it’s all sung in the French language.
Lundi Matin makes a great dance track and is cleverly written and produced as the selected song matter is about dealing with the god-forsaken dread of facing the world first-thing in the morning and all of the unbearable, mundane things that go along with it.
‘THREESOME VOL.2’ by The Lickerish Quartet
Now you may have heard off the following; Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds, Slash’s Snake Pit, Finn Brothers, Alice Cooper, Air and Beck. Well, I’ve heard of at least three of them and are fans of their music as well. However, if you have not then you could very well have heard of their side project, The Lickerish Quartet, and if you haven’t heard of them either well you are about to.
Roger Joseph Manning Jr., Tim Smith and Eric Dover who form the band have released a new EP which came out on the 4th December 2020. One of the singles from it is called Snollygoster Goon, yes, it’s a weird name that sounds like something you’d hear in the playground but don’t let that put you off.
Musically, it sounds like a bizarre eclectic mix which quickly takes on some sort of structure and begins to sound less weird. Ironically, the word Snollgoster Goon is the very first word you hear but then it starts to sound like something you would hear from either Beck or High-Flying’s catalogue. The song is packed with punk-type guitar riffs, group vocals and energetic drum beat.
If you want to check out what they did for the video, use the link below. It’s like a weird but intriguing homage to the world of bizarre artistic creative expression from the era of psychedelic 70’s prog/punk movement.

‘Tricky Situation’ by Healthy Junkies
Tricky Situation is the new single from our French/British punk/rock band, Healthy Junkies. Seriously, I swear these guys are a musical explosion that are just waiting to happen. The band are also releasing the second part of their double album Forever on the Road. Tricky Situation, can best be describes, as musical fusion of high-energy, rock riffs, steady and continuous drum beats and dual vocals from both their guitarist, Phil Honey, and front-woman, Nina Courson. Whose French sounds do come through in the track.
Musically, Phil and Nina complement each other and they just seem to go together in a sort of singing duo. A bit like Jacqui Abbot and Paul Heaton from The Beautiful South. The video that has been made for Tricky Situation is both creative and expressive as it’s one of those that goes back and forth between two different settings. In one shot the band are in a room with a glossy 70’s inspired background, in other shots they’re in what looks like a church interior.
‘Dance In The Rain’ by James Burt
Meet James Burt, the new artist who has released his new track ‘Dance in the Rain’. He has been writing music since his very early years and is one of those talented individuals who has gone from listening to incredible music to actually writing it. During the process he has gradually acquired a big following since, which looks set to get even bigger.
A huge lover of the synthwave genre and of 80’s music icons, Joy Division, James’s influences do shine through in his track, Dance in the Rain.
The song has a sombre, yet calm opening which quite quickly becomes soft and melodic, as the beat slowly progresses it becomes more upbeat which is accompanied by guitar riffs and haunting, yet warm backing vocals. Lyrically, the song is full of emotion and tells a humane story based on everyday human experiences.
For me, this is the first time I have heard anything by James Burt yet he has definitely got something special going on and can’t wait to hear more from him. James is the Ian Curtis for the 2020’s kids and music fans of today.
