Groovy earworm – retro sepia video ‘Covered In Gold’ from Daniel Carlson

An absolute corker of a song from Daniel Carlson, from start to finish. Covered In Gold is one of those songs where it’s slow-paced, never races ahead of itself, just takes its time. Daniel’s singing in this song is soft and smooth but not filled with emotion. Tracks like this are quite witty because there’s always a flipside when you listen carefully to the story of whatever’s going on.

On one hand it’s about that someone you know who just seems to be way ahead of you and seems to have it all. Basically you envy them. The flipside is that you realise that the person they’re on about isn’t actually coping well behind closed doors yet because it’s in front of everyone they’re unable to show this

“Like a one-man show for everyone you know/it’s a person, it’s a trial”

Jackson Mico Milas – with evocative new single “The Bay Fire”!

This new song by Jackson Mico Milas is something of a musical gem. In this track is ability as a songwriter, musician and singer really shines through. We get to see see what this guy’s all about and what he can actually do. Bay Fire is a soft, melodic and easy listening sort of track in itself and Jackson’s own vocals are soft, delicate yet Haunting at the same time.

What’s great about this is that at Jackson invites you as the listener and music fan through a period of self-reflection. The genius of this lies within the usage of the saxophone and piano as they are are the type of instruments used to bring about that feeling of nostalgia. The guitar and electronic sounds help maintain that modern sound

“Turn on your light/I need it on/tonight”

Including the video, the genius of this song it’s as much about Jackson reflecting on his own past as it can be about ours.

Muca and Randolph Matthews – team up as The Labrit Project for “Way Down”

Now then, what happens when you put together a Brazilian musician and producer and team them up with a British based singer? Something that can only be described as an absolute musical masterpiece. Brazilian musician Muca got together with London based singer Randolph Matthews and produced a double-sided musical project called Way Down.

Way Down By Musca Randolph Mathews

Way Down is a musical fusion of Brazilian tribal beats and modern day dance electronic sounds. We do get some vocals from Randolph Matthews which are just sensational on the ear. Now the two sides are the general release and it’s remix counterpart. Both are just under 4 minutes it’s and only for half that time I’m we here Randolph’s vocals.

Now for any music lover out there these two songs what are the type where you would have to listen to them you times over to understand and appreciate the genius of them. You’ve heard of the saying less is more, and for these two singles that saying couldn’t be any more truer. The genius behind Muca and Randolph is because there are lesser we are treated to a rhythmic tribal drum beat.

“Way deep down there’s nowhere else to go/a sound deep down will haunt the shadows you know”
