Music Monday: Latest Music of this week

Our music editor Adam Humphries brings you the latest music of the week. Make sure to add them to your playlist!

‘Phazerdelique’ by Kim & Buran

This comes as a two-part mix, each different in their own way. The first one sounds like something directly from an electronic sci-fi genre yet still manages to sound ahead of itself in the musical sense. The second remix offers an entirely different take on the same thing. Still keeping in line with the similar musical beat yet takes it into a different direction altogether which gives it that fresh sound vibe to it. As a musical duo, Kim and Buran are definitely a new musical talent to listen out for, and if these tracks can act as a taster we can keep an ear out for these two.

‘Catchweight’ by BASICALLY

London-based DJ/Producer and all-round music maestro, BASICALLY is back with yet another musical offering. It’s a small EP with four new songs to listen out for

‘Honey Trap’,

‘Babyweight’

‘Catchweight’

 & ‘Jaguar Paw’

Each one is an amazing dance track within its own right. Unlike some small EP’s the genius behind these tunes is that they all sound different from each other, there’s no actual blending from one to another. Just four decent tracks with their own individual sounds ranging from background instrumentals, sythed backing vocals to steady drum beats. Something great to listen to in each one.

‘Closer’ by Lasse Matthiessen

Danish musician/singer songwriter, Lasse Matthiessen, is back with a new single and this time it explores the darker depths of both the human psyche and the soul. Written during the first lockdown in 2020 the song touches on the human elements of emotion of loss, loneliness and wanting to reconnect with old memories and past experiences. What is good about Lasse, and not to mention somewhat genius to is that he isn’t afraid to go out of his way (and musical comfort zone) to try something new. And he’s quite clearly touched on something new and extraordinary as well. The lyrics are both chilling and direct when the subject matter touches on raw feelings and the strong desire to connect and reconnect.

“Oh the angels are here/can you see them touching your head,”

“I heard them say your name/I feel it’s coming closer”

As a songwriter all that can be said is that Lasse isn’t afraid to be fearless in order to be adventurous. The structure of the song is put together beautifully and wastes no time in taking the listener to somewhere headfirst.
