Music Monday: Hit List of the Week!

WhatsOn music editor, Adam Humphries have again come up with some of the hit list of the week. Get yourself grooving to the music of the latest albums. Here are some of the curated music hits of the week.

The Cure, Paul McCartney & XTC collaborator Phil Thornalley – ‘Fast Car’

Now you will no doubt have heard of rock band, The Cure, who hasn’t, but have you heard of musical supremo Phil Thornalley? If you haven’t look him up and you’ll find a long list of names of those he has worked with such as Bryan Adams, Thompson Twins, The Cure, Psychedelic Furs, XTC, Duran Duran, and even Paul McCartney to name but a few. Well this time Phil us taking the front seat with his single, Fast Car, and actually sounds alright

For someone who’s worked with many rock musicians this has given Phil something of a head start. Listening to his song we’re reminded that rock music sounds and songs can also be just about having fun and singing about everyday life.

“Where I am/stuck in a jam”

Even the small things

THE KUT’s – ‘GRIT’ album gets to No.1 in the Official UK Rock & Metal charts!

She may have only been a recent arrival to the British music scene but rock gal, Kut, has already made some highly noticeable waves especially where the rock scene’s noticed.

Her album, GRIT, has made it to No.1 in the UK rock/metal charts and it’s not hard to see why.

Kut re-introduces a fresh new injection to the ever growing rock scene. That is of energy, female voice and wit along with the attitude to match it.

GRIT is available on the following formats

CD, Vinyl and Download

What you waiting for?

Dua Lipa + Calvin Harris – One Kiss

A combined genius of Dua Lipa’s vocal ability and Calvin Harris’s DJ/Producer skills and this is the result, and dance floor hit. Dua’s singing voice is soft and full of passion from the moment she sings, you can hear her vocal range as she churns her way through the song. The background beat by Harris acts as an ever going soft bump bump bump continuation throughout

“I just wanna feel your skin on mine/Feel your eyes do the exploring”

The underlying development of the song is actually quite clever because whilst Dua sings about her love and passion the accompanying background noise acts as a sort of heart beat

Sam Ryder – Spaceman

First arrived on the music scene via online video service, Tik Tok, Sam Ryder went on to represent us, the UK in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Italy. Just for a brief recap he took the UK to 2nd place for which we’ll always be eternally grateful. Sam’s hit tune in some ways shows us that rock can be just as passionate as if can be about being rebellious. Spaceman is about finding your way back to that one person no matter what the distance, plus maintaining the need for communication

“If I was an astronaut, I’d have a bird’s eye view/I’d circle ’round the world and keep on coming back to you”

Sam proves that he has what it takes, and more, to go big in the rock scene on a massive scale. Armed with his guitar, falsetto vocals and traditional rock star hair he is a reminder of the glory moments of rock
