Lebanon: The Paris Of The Middle East’s Heart Is Broken Once Again

The people of Lebanon are enraged and heartbroken once again at yet another disaster; an explosion that has been labeled as one of the world’s top 5 most powerful explosions. Was it an attack or a mistake gone terribly wrong?

The repercussions of this absolutely horrendous explosion in Beirut’s port, on the 4th of August 2020,  has caused people to be homeless, over 200 deaths, 1000’s wounded, a portion of Beirut destroyed, and anger and frustration amongst the Lebanese people.

Lebanon was already dealing with an economic crisis before this tragic explosion and now after the explosion that rocked the world and was even felt 150 miles away, across the Mediterranean Sea, in Cyprus, the Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab and his cabinet resigned days after the explosion.

It has been reported by the Lebanese Prime Minister that this explosion was caused by 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored since 2013 at Beirut’s port.

The Lebanese people have come together in floods to search for people buried under the rubble and clean up the debris and re-home all people, families, children, and the elderly.

The Lebanese might have been knocked off their feet temporarily but they are picking themselves up and are showing their strength by being united to rebuild the parts of Beirut that were destroyed.

The French Prime Minister visited the site of the explosion in Beirut and people were begging him to help the people of Lebanon and not the corrupt government.

Looking forward to a hope for an economically and politically better Lebanon, a new government needs to be formed and elected into power to restore stability and peace into this beautiful country.
