Hatir Jheel, Dhaka

Last few years of burgeoning evolution of New Dhaka city added some innate beauty places in its list for busy inhabitants to blow their tedious boredom and tiredness.  The place has been designed under the Bangladesh Army and the special Works Organization (SWO) with a very strategic disciplined way and an architectural view. It is now a mostly accepted recreational spot for city life and is currently undergoing renovation.
Hatirjheel precisely meaning is Elephant Lake. The name is self-linked to elephant rearing in Dhaka. There was an elephant training center in Dhaka that is now Pill Khana etymological meaning “Elephant House” in Cantonment. Up to hundred elephants from cantonment used to be taken to HatirJheel for bath through the “Elephant Road”. Hatirjheel is now a lakefront at Begunbari in Dhaka, BD. It’s been launched by Prime minister of BD on 2nd January 2013.
The main objective was to create a semi-bridge over the canal, however, eventually, it became the greatest amusement place for the public. It is a place that would take away the image of overcrowded, traffic and sound pollution. Every evening you might be treated to an amazing dance of colors and music. The 1,980 square meter Hatirjheel Musical Dancing Fountain, built in the waters of Hatirjheel lake, is the first dancing water fountain in Bangladesh.
To reach Hatirjheel, you have to get down to the Hatir Jheel link road. The Jheel is 13 km away from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. So, it may take 30 minutes to reach the site. From Gabtoli, the site is 9 km away through Mirpur Road. Therefore, you may need 20 to 25 minutes to reach the site unless there is any traffic jam. From Saidabad Bus Station, the site is 6.5 km away. Hence, it will take about 20 minutes to reach the site.
