Glastonbury Festival Goes Online For 50th Birthday

Although Glastonbury, as we know it, may be postponed until next year due to the Pandemic situation, the BBC has stepped in to arrange a weekend of musical excellence all from the comfort of your living room! Anika Khan reports.

From 24 June, more than 100 performances which had previously been archived from the past festivals will be available to watch online for the first time ever.

A dedicated iPlayer channel has been created for viewers who want to replicate the Glastonbury experience in their own gardens!

Here are ten sets that you will want to stream:

  • Grimes (2016): ‘Art Angels’, ‘Flesh Without Blood’, ‘Venus Fly’ and ‘Kill v. Maim’
  • Idles (2019): ‘Joy As An Act Of Resistance’, ‘Colossus’ ‘Never Fight A Man With A Perm’ ‘Mother’
  • Lady Gaga (2009): (‘Poker Face’, ‘Paparazzi’, ‘Just Dance’)
  • Radiohead (1997): ‘OK Computer’, ‘Karma Police’, ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’ and ‘Paranoid Android’
  • Jay-Z (2008)
  • Oasis (1994):‘Supersonic’, ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’
  • Beyoncé (2011):‘Crazy In Love’
  • Lorde (2017): ‘Melodrama’, ‘Green Light’ and ‘Homemade Dynamite’
  • Coldplay (2016):‘A Head Full Of Dreams’

The first Glastonbury Festival attracted around 1500 people and the band TRex headlined the weekend.

This year, on March 28, the 2020 festival was officially cancelled in response to Covid-19.

Glastonbury performances will be available to watch on the BBC pop-up channel from until June 29.
