Explore “Battle with English” With EU Students

Department of English at Eastern University organized “Battle with English,” an English language competition, on 27 September, 2018, at its Dhanmondi campus amidst the festive mood of youths of HSC level students. Teams consisting three students of the same college competed in 3 rounds. Judges of the final round of the competition was Prof. Dr. Kaiser Huq and Prof. Tahmina Ahmed. First three winning college of the competition were; Mohammadpur Preparatory School & College; Viqarunnisa Noon College; Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College.
EU students showcased their co-curricular talent through music, dance and poetry recitation. Mr. Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Media Adviser to the Honorable Prime Minister, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest and distributed the prizes and certificates among the winning teams. Dr. Serajul Islam Choudhury, Professor Emeritus, University of Dhaka, favored the event as the Special Guest and encouraged the students to keep on gaining knowledge and skills.
The Chief Patron of the competition Engr. Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, Board of Trustees, EU, along with Mr. Md. Azizul Islam, Former Chairman, BOT, EU; Mr. Mohammed Ali Azzam, Members BOT, EU and Mr. Mashrur Arefin, Additional Managing Director and Chief Communication Officer, The City Bank Limited, were present in the occasion as Guests of Honor. They inspired the youths by their motivational speeches. The Session Chair, the Vice Chancellor of EU, Professor Dr. Engr. Aminul Hoque thanked everyone for joining the occasion and making it successful.
The program Convener Professor Kashinath Roy, Dean, Faculty of Arts, EU, stressed on the importance of gaining competency in English language skills. Sureya Huda, Chairperson, Department of English and Organizing Secretary of the competition enthusiastically thanked all for their support.
The sponsors for the program were The City Bank Ltd, Alif Group, Al-Jamil Properties Ltd. and Augmedix. Strategic partner was Shout from The Daily Star, media partner being The Daily Jugantor, Radio partner included People’s Radio. The event had Igloo, Nestle, Akij Food & Beverages and Royal Buffet Restaurant as its food partner.
