Eleanor and Park

Author: Rainbow Rowell

After the release and popularity of Twilight, many readers have become wary of the ‘young-adult’ romance genre, but Eleanor and Park is one book that should restore your faith a bit! Rowell has so masterfully captured the backgrounds of the two titular characters that you might find yourself remembering people just like them from school. Eleanor is an outcast trying to fit in at a new school and Park is an outcast because of his taste in music and comic books. Their connection stems from a mutual sense of refuge and understanding which slowly develops into love. The best part is how well Rowell’s writing mimics the feelings of first love. Through each chapter, Eleanor and Park’s love will seem all-consuming and expanding to envelop the universe, only to be cut short and left wanting.
