Economic crisis prevails over Sri Lanka. The economy shrinks in Sri Lanka and the island’s future remains questionable. Gotabaya Rajapaksa ruled Sri Lanka amidst corruption and oppression. The protesters made him step down from his throne. Economic mismanagement led to the fall of the Sri Lankan government.

Sajith Premadasa is intended to be the president, once the existing president Rajapaksa steps down. There are intentions of electing a new president on July 20. Premadasa, the leader of the opposition party describes that the situation in Sri Lanka is confusing. It is full of uncertainty and there is total anarchy all around. According to Premadasa says that Sri Lanka needs consensus, compromise, and togetherness.


The usable reserves have dropped to around $250m. There had been a fuel shortage, which makes public transport suffer. Schools are closed because of this fuel shortage. Citizens are planning to leave the country. Fuel inefficiency leads to power cuts owing to daily blackouts on the island. The fuel shortage has crippled the simple living of the people.


Sri Lanka has failed to invest properly in public transport. The public transports now almost stand demolished without proper fuel. Health care centers also suffer badly owing to this crisis.


There had always been a feud between the working class and the capitalist class according to Karl Marx The government and the protesters had conflicted among themselves. Sri Lanka had once been an economic hope with highly educated people. People in Sri Lanka now are living at the edge unable to even buy the basics. The foreign exchange crisis prevails over Sri Lanka.


Ranil expressed that his house which was set in to fire by the protesters was his only house in Sri Lanka. He and his wife had to leave their house in the evening because it was burnt. His books which were 200 years old had all been burnt. He was about to donate them to a Sri Lankan University, but they are in ashes now.


While Sri Lanka awaits a new government with newly energized people in politics. The reign of Rajapaksa and Wickremesinghe ends. The government falls from its position and the island stands in total disarray.
