Exam Papers Leak Causes Millions of Indian Students to Face Re-Test

CBSE has ordered the re-examination of the Class XII economics and Class X maths papers after both papers were leaked ahead of the exams through WhatsApp. Both parents and students across the country are terribly upset and in several cities protested against the CBSE’s decision on Thursday.
These students feel that it is unfair they have to take the exam stress again even though the leak was limited to the Delhi region. Online petition have already started and Teachers were equally disappointed.
The CBSE said it received a complaint by fax on March 23 naming a person from Rajinder Nagar behind the paper leak. The complaint received by the CBSE also said two schools for their alleged involvement in the CBSE paper leak.
Police in Delhi investigating the leak said 25 people, including students and tutors, had been questioned as part of their inquiries but no arrests had been made so far.
“For now, we are trying to establish the trail of this leak. Most people we have spoken with only received it on WhatsApp,” said the special commissioner of police, RP Upadhyay.
Meanwhile, CBSE chief Anita Karwal said that the board had taken the decision in favour of the students. “We have taken decision in favour of the students. We are working for their good. Dates for re-examination will be announced soon.”
Most parents too resented the re-test move. Within hours of the examination, students who were relaxing, found themselves facing a re-examination because of CBSE’s bloopers.
India has vowed to strengthen online security and the education minister, Prakash Javadekar, said he “understood the pain and anguish and frustration” of parents and students over the breach. “The criminals who did this won’t be spared. I am sure police will catch these people soon. Let me assure that we will further improve the system and make it foolproof”.
Rahul Gandhi, of the main opposition Congress party, used the exam leak to revive an attack on Modi’s administration over digital security.
“2.8 million students to take exams again!! I mean is it a bloody joke? Who is accountable for this big mess?” he tweeted.
