Don’t Turn Ukraine Into Another Afghanistan!

It’s been one month since the Russian invasion of Ukraine has started and more than 3.6 million people of Ukraine become a refugee.

After so much silence, NATO declared to stand beside Ukraine with their full force; meanwhile, they will also introduce more sanctions on Russia in the upcoming days.

Analysts predict that the situation is turning into a complete Cold War and sweeping sanctions and providing military aid can bring more harm.

Greek lawmaker Yanis Varoufakis said, “West is inflicting major political and environmental damage on itself, whereas Mr. Putin, being a cynical agent that he is — a KGB strategist, let’s not forget — I have no doubt he was planning for all this. In the end, we’re going to damage the planet and the West more than we’re going to damage Putin because Putin doesn’t care much about Russians. He cares about himself.”

According to a foreign policy expert, US hawks are pushing Washington to increase their military budget which is already 800 billion USD per year.

William Hartung, a senior research fellow at the Quincy Institute said “There’s a danger that not only will this be a war in Ukraine, but the U.S. will use it as an excuse for a more aggressive policy around the world, arguing that it’s to counter Russia or China or Iran, or whoever the enemy of the moment is.”

Anatol Lieven, a senior fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft said, “The war is heading for some kind of prolonged stalemate, in which Russia will not be able to defeat Ukraine completely and occupy the country or overthrow the Ukrainian government, but Russia will hold certain territories that it has occupied in the east and south of the country. And unless there is a peace settlement, for which there do seem to be some real grounds now, this war could go on indefinitely.”

Now the only question remains when the world will see the peace settlement?
