Dhaka International Folk Fest which is considered as the biggest folk festival of Asia kicked of Thursday evening at Bangladesh Army stadium.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud inaugurated ‘Dhaka International Folk Fest 2019’, while Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid and founder chairman of Dhaka Bank Limited Abdul Hai Sarker were also present in the opening ceremony.
Dedicating to late music maestros of the country, Subir Nandi, Bari Siddiqui, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Fakir Abdur Rob Shah and Ayub Bachchu, the fifth edition of the festival started its 2019 journey with the performance of Prema and Bhabna dance troupes.
Their variety of dance performance amused thousands of audiences who joins the first day of three-day festival.
In the main session of the festival, total three performers performed in the very first day with their beautiful melody of voice.
Firstly, team Chveneburebi from Georgia who collects folk songs from different parts of Georgia cheered the audience with their group of songs and musical instruments.
After that Shah Alam Sarkar, a popular folk singer of Bangladesh got on the stage with a rich repertoire of Bengali folk songs.
Thousands of audiences were looked so joyful and all were in a festive mode where they sang and danced with the performers.
Shimla, a student who attended the festival said, “every year I wait for the festival thinking when it will come. You can see the audience cheering and dancing. All are happy and in festive mood as I am.”
Finally, Indian artist Daler Mehndi, who are highly influenced from the Patiala Gharana of music concluded the first day of the festival with their high voltage performance.
On Friday, Bangladeshi folk singers Rabbi, Shafiqul, Kajal Dewan, Fakir Shahbuddin, Pakistani singer Hina Nasrullah and Habib Koiti and Bamada from Mali will perform at the event.
More than 200 artists from 6 countries across the globe will perform in the fifth edition of the festival.
