Daniel Radcliffe Responds To JK Rowling’s Controversial Tweet

Actor Daniel Radcliffe speaks out after JK Rowling’s tweets on gender and sex, and her criticism of the phrase “people who menstruate”, Puza Snigdha reports.

Daniel Radcliffe criticized the author of “Harry Potter” JK Rowling on Monday saying, “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo (Rowling) or I.”

J.K. Rowling came under fire for sharing her thoughts about gender identity which seemed transphobic and following that many trans writers, activists, and allies spoke out against her comment.

Radcliffe explained that, according to the Trevor Project, 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth report having been discriminated against because of their gender identity.

Rowling had retweeted an op-ed titled, “Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate”. She criticised the usage of the phrase “people who menstruate” and said: “I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

Rowling faced backlash over the weekend. However, Rowling claimed that sex is real and erasing the concept was “nonsense”.

“I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans,” Rowling replied.
