COVID Omicron Variant: Things To Know

After South African scientists discovered the new Covid variant Omicron this November, the economy has started to fall in various parts of the world.

Omicron was first discovered in Botswana and sooner, it started spreading in different parts of South Africa.

On November 26 WHO described it as a “variant of concern” and on November 29 it got the highest spreading variants title over the world.

Omicron has been found in 77 countries and it’s been documented in at least 39 U.S. states.

Scientists believe omicron might be a less severe disease than other variants, especially the Delta variant.

Recently researchers solved the big question of people that is vaccines will work on the Omicron variant.

Recent data shows the Pfizer vaccine was 30% effective in fighting the virus.

A recent study in the U.K. found that having the booster shot provided 85% protection against serious illness from Omicron.

But scientists also warned that it can be deadly also in a few cases.  Trevor Bedford, a virologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center said, “People who thought that they wouldn’t have to worry about infection this winter if they had their booster still have to worry about infection with Omicron.”
