Members of Generation Z have been at the forefront of the Black Lives Matter movement across the globe, organising events and encouraging voters to register. Tara Pilkington reports.
As activism shapes the lives of Generation Z, we have seen again and again how young people have mobilised communities online to make their voices heard and demand for a more progressive and equal future for all.
In the three weeks since Floyd’s death, young people have taken it upon themselves to lead the way with protests and spread create useful resources online which can be shared.
Sarah Audelo, executive director of Alliance for Youth Action, has said: “It’s been really powerful to see that young people are leading the events of the past couple of weeks and in the large majority of cases it is Black youth who are organising protests in their communities,”
Our unprecedented ability to rapidly share information and organise remotely online has been a key factor to the success of these youth movements.
Social media platforms especially, including Instagram, Twitter and TikTok are crucial tools to inspire and educate others during this time.
