Beyoncé Sends Open Letter to Kentucky Attorney General: Justice for Breonna Taylor

Beyoncé is seeking justice for Breonna Taylor by sending an open letter to Kentucky’s attorney general. Puza Snigdha reports.

On Sunday 14 June, Beyoncé has sent an open letter to Attorney General Daniel Cameron following the death of Breonna Taylor, and in wake of the value of Black women’s lives in the current climate.

The star has urged for criminal charges against the three Louisville Metro Police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Taylor.

Breonna Taylor was a 26-years-old ER technician who was killed in her sleep by Louisville police officers conducting a no-knock search warrant in March. Her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired at police, thinking they were intruders. Police returned fire and shot Taylor dead. No drugs were found at her home.

“Three months have passed and the LMPD’s investigations have created more questions than answers. […] Three months have passed – and zero arrests have been made, and no officers have been fired. […] Three months have passed – and Breonna Taylor’s family still waits for justice,” the letter says.

The singer also pointed out that all officers involved in the incident remain employed and “LMPD’s investigations have created more questions than answers.”

“These small steps in the right direction are painful reminds that there has still been no justice for Breonna Taylor or her family,” the letter reads.

Beyoncé humbly requested, “Don’t let this case fall into the pattern of no action after a terrible tragedy.”
