Africa State of Mind is dedicated to culturally diverse contemporary visual arts. It is rooted in the local community and has a strong history of working with minority communities and committed to stimulating new perspectives on the value of diversity within art and society. This year this exhibition will opens from 29 Sep to 16 Dec, at New Art Exchange in Nottingham, marking ten years of the venue.
This is the largest arts space in the UK and a group photography exhibition that gathers together the work of an emergent generation of photographers from across the African continent. This event is produced by New Art Exchange and curated by Ekow Eshun.
It is a ground breaking exhibition presenting new visions in African Photography. 16 artists from 11 different countries interrogate ideas of “Africanness” through highly subjective renderings of life and identity on the continent, along the way revealing Africa to be a psychological space as much as a physical location.
