Music Monday: Top Music of the Week!

WhatsOn editor Adam Humphries, brings some of the top music selection of the week. Listen and groove to the beats of the music for killing the Monday blues. Here the list to make you groove to the tunes.

Kate Bush/Cocteau Twins-esque celestial new Ruby Tingle single – ‘Familiars’

It seems as though the influence of Kate Bush will be with us for quite a while yet. Ruby’s singing voice eerily, and yet in a homage type way, has numerous similarities to Kate herself. The words in the song refer to self-discovery of who we are as people as well as rediscovering that past love with that someone from your past. Everything about this, from the singing, creativity and voice are actually quite clever as it’s both homage and an artist putting their creative flair out there. Brilliant

HANNAH SCHNEIDER – ‘It’s The Season’

Danish singer songwriter has got together with Christian Balvig to produce this mysterious little number, and it has that seasonal edge to it. It’s over 4 minutes long and it’s about the downsides of high expectations during the summer vibes in the sun. Interestingly, when you listen to Hannah when she sings you gradually see the genius within the words, summer isn’t always a chirpy upbeat time for everyone

London nu-soul singer AMY STEELE – tapestry of soul ‘Smoke Castles’!

A great debut song for a new artist. Amy Steele’s singing voice has that feel where you can hear the very breath as they sing. Vocally, she is in the similar veins to musical greats, Kate Bush and Sade, in that you can hear and feel every word and emotion and yet she sings with such amazing clarity. Every word is loud and clear

“Take my smile/like a souvenir

it’s getting hard/to breathe in here”

“Speaking smoke, you’re so unclear, white ribbons have tied up the air.”

Like Bush and Sade, Amy also sings about a relationship that has basically collapsed and being mature enough to recognize it and simply cutting your losses and turning away

Ex-High Highs front man Jackson Mico Milas joins Apollo Records with tender single ‘Lost In Seasons’ –

Aussie artist, formerly the front-man of High Highs has now signed with Apollo Records and has given his music loving fans a taster treat of his new song.

Lost In Seasons showcases his talent as a solo artist. Now I openly admit that I’ve probably not listened to any of his material from his front-man of the band days but I definitely enjoyed his new solo song and it’s got some real potential in there.

Also there’s the video to an instrumental to a b-side he’s involved in if you want to check it out
