Kamala Harris makes US history

Kamala Harris accepts the vice-presidential nomination in Wilmington on Wednesday making US history. Harris has broken racial barriers as she becomes the first Black woman to accept such a major party’s nomination.

The California senator is also the daughter of immigrants which makes her the first Asian American to be nominated for the vice presidency. She has given the most consequential speech this week by urging the voters to reject the divisive leadership of Trump.

Kamala Harris was born in an Indian American family. Her mother Shyamala Gopalan was an American cancer researcher from India. Her father Donald Harris was an American economist from Jamaica.

In the historic speech, Kamala addresses her childhood and upbringing in a family that was actively involved in civil rights movements. She acknowledged the weight of the nomination and invoked her mother and every Black female civil right leader who helped to pave the way for her in her speech.

The 55-year-old Californian senator said the US as a nation deserves way better. “The constant chaos leaves us adrift. Incompetence makes us feel afraid. Callousness makes us feel alone.”She has called out Donald Trump to reverse national tragedies into political weapons to feed his own purposes. She said that Trump’s failure has causes lives and livelihoods.

She addressed that American democracy hangs in a balance and urges the voters to register and vote in the November election.
