WhatsOn Remembers George Floyd

In a couple of days, it would be two years since the murder of George Floyd. Having the anniversary of the brutal police killing, a book has been published by Robert Samuels and Toluse Olorunnipa, the reporters from Washington Post. His Name Is George Floyd: One Man’s Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice is the name of the published book.

The Story

The book narrates the story of systematic as well as the organisational practice of racism in the US. The narrative gives an American account of how poverty and wealth work. According to the book, Floyd had been on the wrong side of the line because of his complexion, says one of the reporters.

The Unfortunate

According to one of the writers of Name Is George Floyd: One Man’s Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice, Floyd had lived in a place where he tried to get better every day. But unfortunately, there was no support from others to continue the development. The writers of the book share their concerns regarding the significance of not leaving anyone like Floyd behind those who exist as well as functioning in silence. There are millions of others like Floyds who need more attention and care because of their socio-political struggles.

Remembering Floyd

The 2nd anniversary of the killing of Floyd is in this week. He died because Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer, pressed one of his knees into Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. During that time, Floyd was face-down in a handcuffed position on the roadway. He could not resist and fight for his right to breathe freely.

For the murder of Floyd, Chauvin was penalised; he had to serve 22 and a half years of prison time. Because of violating Floyd’s constitutional rights, three other previous Minneapolis police officers were found guilty as well as they completely ignored Floyd’s repetitive requests of “I can’t breathe.”

WhatsON remembers George Floyd, as well as his influence. Though he was murdered in Minneapolis, he lived most of his life in Texas and Houston. He is remembered for his hard work to disrupt the practice of violence in his area by involving young people.
