WhatsOn Cover : Ireland Guide with Divine Comedy

The Divine Comedy is a Northern Irish pop group that was founded in 1989 and is led by Neil Hannon. The only continuous member of the ensemble has been Hannon, who plays all instruments other than the drums in some cases. The group has put out 12 studio albums. The band recorded nine singles between 1996 and 1999, nine of which reached the UK Top 40, including the top-ten hit “National Express” in 1999.

The band’s first nine albums, from Liberation to Bang Goes the Knighthood, were reissued on vinyl and CD to commemorate The Divine Comedy’s 30th anniversary. The box set Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time: 30 Years of the Divine Comedy, which was published in October 2020, had all eleven albums. The 24-disc set consists of 12 albums with two CDs each, each featuring an original remastered album and a second CD of B-sides, demos, alternate takes, rarities, and previously unheard material selected by Neil Hannon. Along with other pre-Liberation material, the collection contains the original album Fanfare for the Comic Muse.
