Scarily Realistic Robot Developed to Promote Westworld Series

“Westworld” puts an outstanding effort to promote the upcoming season where an ‘ultra-realistic’ robot including a metal skeleton, silicone skin, real hair and acrylic eyes named Fred has sent to a London pub to observe the reactions of people which is going on-air on April 22.
In the TV series Westworld, rich humans pay big money to visit the Westworld park and interact with AI robots who are so lifelike that it’s almost impossible to tell they’re not human, which the team tried to create and was successful to creep out patrons in a pub.
“What are your thoughts on the impending humanoid robot invasion?” the robot asked one woman. Freaking out another, he asked,“Humanoid robots are so much more useful than humans, don’t you think?” An unsettled pub-goer called the robot “spooky” after it began malfunctioning and repeating itself.
Engineers from Engineered Arts spent 12 weeks using computer code, real hair, acrylic eyes and a metal skeleton to make Fred. The robot, which was commissioned by NOW TV, boasts full speech and motor functions.
“Seeing yourself in robot form is a very, very strange experience,” said Newell, “I’m honestly amazed at how realistic they were able to make it look – you can barely tell us apart. Not many people have had the chance to meet their robotic twin.”
