Irish singer Dolores O’Riordan’s death was confirmed by her publicist yesterday. O’Riordan was 46 years of age.
Her publicist released a statement that said: “The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session. No further details are available at this time”.
The singer’s family are devastated after receiving the news and have asked to be granted privacy at this difficult time.
Dolores O’Riordan occupied the position of lead singer of The Cranberries from its origin in 1990 until they took a break in 2003. She returned to front the band in 2009.
The Cranberries achieved global stardom thanks to the huge success of songs that have since become iconic like “Linger” and “Zombie”.
Since the news was made public, tributes from fellow performers and public figures have flooded social media.
The remaining members of The Cranberries issued a statement saying: “We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started The Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today”.
Sales of The Cranberries records have surged since the news of Dolores O’Riordan’s passing was announced.
