UN Outraged at Levels of Suffering Across Syria

The UN has expressed its concern over the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria. The situation of the most severe humanitarian disaster is at its worst point since the war broke out nearly eight years ago.
There has been a feeling that hostilities were receding in the last months. This is far from the truth. The seemingly improving situation has only made the international desist in its efforts to find a political solution to the issue.
“We feel really outraged. Dramatic developments have been building up and it has reached a point where we can no longer stay silent. These are multiple fires we have to respond to, with a dramatic deterioration in many places”, said Panos Moumtzis, UN assistant secretary-general and regional humanitarian coordinator for Syria.
The UN called for a one-month cease-fire on Tuesday to try and alleviate the deteriorating situation of the conflict. Some population hubs have not received any kind of humanitarian aid for months now – no food, no medicine.
Urban areas are under siege and their population is suffering from starvation and unhygienic conditions. Millions have already been displaced, both throughout the region and the rest of the world, and many more are still fleeing their homes looking for safety.
Bombs are still dropping from the sky and causing many civil casualties. Number of deaths are on the rise as bodies are pulled out from the rubble. In 2016 alone, over 500,000 died in the conflict.
