UK Universities' Commitment to Go Fossil Free

An increasing number of UK universities are making a commitment to divest from fossil fuels and, in doing so, making a contribution to helping protect the environment.
The University of Huddersfield has become the last UK university to go fossil free. They have announced their commitment to make a divestment.
The UK is not the only place where this movement towards fossil fuel divestment is happening. New York City announced not long ago that they will be divesting and will also take oil companies to court.
All these commitments from institutions all over the world are part of a global movement towards divestment and are going a long way in placing the matter of environmental protection on the political agenda.
The Fossil Free Huddersfield University student-led campaign pushed the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor to make public the institution’s commitment to not invest in fossil fuels. The university had already previously stated they held no investments but have now taking it one step further and made a promise to never invest in fossil fuel.
An event organised by a partnership between People & Planet, Global Justice Now, Momentum, Greater Manchester Housing Action and Demand the Impossible will aim to provide young people under the age of the age of thirty with the skills necessary to carry out meaningful campaigns and to make a difference.
The free ‘We Rise – Organise’ will take place in Manchester during the afternoon of 3 Feb and will include workshops to develop young people’s skills to run a successful social media campaign, how to become more convincing and how to change people’s mind.
You can get your free tickets to the event and further information here.
