Deadly Earthquake Effects and How You Can Help

A strong 7.8-magnitude earthquake that shook huge portions of Turkey and Syria early in morning claimed nearly 5000 lives.

Loss of lives:

Across southeast Turkey and northern Syria, two extremely strong earthquakes have left behind terrible devastation and killed an estimated close to 5,000 people. Furthermore, this is in an area where millions of Syrian refugees have sought refuge.

Economic loss:

Hundreds of structures got destroyed, and the area continued to experience significant aftershocks. Including one that was almost as powerful as the first one. Patients, including neonates, got transferred out of Syrian hospitals after one in Turkey collapsed. Three buildings reportedly collapsed close to a resident’s home in the city of Adana in southern Turkey.

Climate suffering:

This kind of earthquake directly harms the climate. It changes the whole climate echo system.

Trauma, psychological:

Victims get psychologically traumatized. Because most of them lose their family and home and all. They lose their homes to live in. Loss jobs. All these disasters cause them psychological trauma.

Social Effects:

There are many kinds of social effects such as communication being broken. Water supplies are poisoned and water pipes explode. Viruses might spread. It could be necessary to relocate people, occasionally to refugee camps.

How You Can Help

In many ways, we can help earthquake victims and their countries. Some effective ways to help them are the following below:

  1. Make a food or other donation. Find out what they require by contacting the Red Cross chapter, a YMCA, a community center, or a house of a church in your area.
  2. Give your time. Offer to assist sort contributions or delivering supplies to disaster-affected households.
  3. Arrange a fundraiser.
