Trump Charity Foundation to Shut Down

US President Donald Trump’s charitable foundation has agreed to shut down to close down amid lawsuit allegations that he and others illegally misused its funds in personal business and political interests
It is accused tht Trump had used the charity to pay off legal settlements within his business and even to buy a painting of himself to hang in one of his golf clubs.
The move was announced by New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood, who will supervise the distribution of its remaining monies.
He filed in June and alleges that the Trump Foundation engaged in a “shocking pattern of illegality,” with the president using his charitable organization “as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump’s business and political interests.”
She has accused Mr Trump and his three eldest children of using it and said “This is an important victory for the rule of law, making clear that there is one set of rules for everyone.
“We’ll continue to move our suit forward to ensure that the Trump Foundation and its directors are held to account for their clear and repeated violations of state and federal law,”She added.
The foundation’s lawyer accused her of attempting to politicise the matter. This is just one of several legal cases currently swirling around Mr Trump and his family.
Following the announcement of the shutdown, the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew) executive director, Noah Bookbinder, said: “The Donald J Trump Foundation has abused the rules governing non-profit charitable foundations and admitted to breaking the law. It apparently operated for the sole purpose of benefiting Donald Trump.
“Crew filed complaints calling for investigations into the Foundation for improper political activity, lying on its tax returns, and self-dealing to benefit Donald Trump, among other problems. It is good to see this fraud is finally over.”
